The Business of Fighting

Protect Yourself!

True defense isn't just about rolling shoulders or slipping hooks. The most dangerous damage a fighter takes usually happens on paper. Learn to read management and promotional agreements with total clarity.

Critical Contract Red Flags

1. The Purse Split & Hidden Fees

Management contracts often hide behind a simple "20% cut" line, but look closely at the deduction architecture. Are they taking percentages out of the gross purse or the net purse after coaching, medical, and corner fees are paid? Never let a manager double-dip on your hard work.

2. Lopsided Renewal & Extension Clauses

Promoters love automatic extension loops. If a contract states that an injury, a canceled card, or a championship win automatically extends their exclusive rights to your career by 12–24 months, you are looking at a legal chokehold. Demand fixed expiration boundaries.

3. Ancillary & Merchandising Rights

Who owns your name, image, and likeness (NIL)? If a gym or promotional stable demands perpetual rights to your merchandise, digital content, or video game licensing for zero upfront royalties, cross the clause out immediately. Keep your brand autonomous.
